Tutoring

Private one-on-one tutoring to help your child master any area where they are currently experiencing difficulties.

How it Works
This document has been prepared in order to give you some idea of the process.

Tutoring is offered online in the mornings and afternoons during the term. Individual tutoring and small group tutoring is the preferred method of instruction. As all children have extra mural activities the times available will change from term to term. What’s App support is available free for existing clients.

Feedback to parents is ongoing and concerns are addressed immediately. Please feel free to discuss any concerns from your side and to ask any questions that you have at any time. I want the best for every child and welcome your feedback both positive and negative.

An individual approach is used with each child. If they need help every week, a regular weekly session (or sessions) will be scheduled. If they only need help occasionally or to get through a tough section they will be seen less regularly.

As Mathematics and English are the main areas of tutoring, details about how these subjects are approached is below. Other subjects are also offered including Physical Science and Afrikaans. All subjects are offered on a Primary School Level and Mathematics tutoring is offered up to Grade 12 or A Level.

With regard to Maths: the number and frequency of lessons will depend on whether they have missed any basics in previous years, as it is very important to fill in the gaps: Maths tends to build on previous knowledge.

With regard to English: an individual approach is used for comprehension. There are some guidelines that will be worked through with the child that relate to comprehension in general and how to answer specific questions. Making inferences is also a part of comprehension and there are some exercises that are used to help the child develop this skill. It is important to practice the actual comprehensions and teachers are usually happy to share tests or comprehensions that they have previously done with their classes. Or previous tests that the child has written can be used to see the kinds of questions that the teacher asks.

If you require study skills training sessions these can be done in a small group or individually. Enquiries should be made via email.

Please feel free to ask if you need any additional information.
